Coordinate, implement and evaluate new and existing educational, cultural, social, and community-building programs for John Muir College students. Assist with the development and implementation of leadership/personal development and college-wide programs (i.e., Leadership Retreats, Triton Day, and Orientation Programs). Coordinate and manage Welcome Week activities and events. Advise students and college organizations, assisting in the development of leadership skills and programs to meet diverse needs of Muir students.

Assists in advising Muir College Council. Coordinate leadership awards program. Direct organizations in the development of budgets, establishment of policies and procedures and organizational development to teach leadership development and program planning/evaluation skills. Supervise Student Activities undergraduate interns that support College marketing, programs and initiatives. Implements student conduct procedures, as directed by the Dean of Student Affairs.

Act as the liaison between students and campus-wide resources and services. Work closely with Council of Coordinators of Student Activities and other College staff in the coordination of cross-college and campus-wide events. Serve as the College’s lead staff member for assessment of College programs, assisting with the training of continuing and new staff. Attend staff meetings and training sessions. Consult and participate in other programs as assigned.

  • Must be available for frequent evening, night, and weekend hours as required by student organizations, activities, and college events. (Flexible, or Alternate work schedules, or Overtime may be approved, and/or required).
  • Proven ability to develop, implement and evaluate educational, cultural, and social programs that reflect the needs of a diverse student population.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with college students to set goals, prioritizes, plan, budget, implement and evaluate educational, cultural and social programs.

  • Working knowledge of advising and counseling techniques. Knowledge of developmental needs of college students and co-curricular activities that fulfill the educational mission of the college and the University. Understanding of student development, counseling and leadership theories. Knowledge of needs of special populations. (i.e. Commuter,transfer, Re-entry students).

  • Proven knowledge of University processes and procedures. Knowledge of programming resources and evaluation techniques on campus and in the community.

  • Understanding of University rules and regulations. Skill to interpret UC system-wide and UCSD policies and procedures relating to student organizations.

  • Proficient knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs. Strong skill in using computer based applications including spreadsheets, word processing, and email.

  • Strong abilities in problem identification, reasoning. Skill to resolve conflicts with the ability to identify, evaluate and mediate problems, and propose solutions.

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with diverse student and community populations, both orally and written. Ability to effectively facilitate group discussions.

  • Demonstrated understanding of leadership development theories with a minimum of two (2) years experience in leadership development.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to implement marketing strategies and publicity techniques.

  • Excellent skills in service orientation, active listening, critical thinking. Proven skill in analyzing needs and interests of student populations.

  • Solid organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize in a fluid environment with shifting priorities. Ability to develop and implement both short term and long term goals, and coordinate, collaborate and manage large scale projects with multiple stakeholders.
