The Director of Career Center oversees the operations of the UNCW Career Center and provides leadership, vision and direction to attain the university’s strategic goals through Career Center student support programs focusing on student success with career exploration, employment searches and graduate school applications. This position plays a central role in helping produce the successful career outcomes higher education promises and society now increasingly demands. Key responsibilities include:
•Implements innovative approaches to support students’ career development, job and graduate school searches with the specific goal of improving students’ career readiness and career success, and assisting alumni with support as needed.
•Establishes and maintains productive relationships with colleagues both on and off campus, including faculty, staff, administrators, employers, alumni, and other relevant groups to help infuse career readiness into the campus and professional communities.
•Applies state-of-the-art technology to enhance and facilitate student’s campus career experience and interactions to assist students in navigating the world outside the university. Utilizes technology to support students at all stages of their career development to explore, experience, engage and embark.
•Evaluates available technologies, selects and secures funding for most relevant platforms, and assesses their impact on students’ career development.
•Develops and promotes departmental print and electronic marketing and publicity campaigns to inform and educate students, alumni and employers on available programs and services.
•Presents to campus, state, regional, and national groups on career services, student success and applied learning initiatives, career research and the use of state-of-the-art technology in career services.
•Creates and monitors departmental service, program, staffing, and operational budgets to ensure resources are targeted to achieve student’s career readiness and success.
•Oversees service delivery process and documentation, performs gap analysis and compiles, publishes, and submits service and program reports in collaboration with the Career Center team. Report evaluations and recommendations are used to refine programs and services, create new initiatives and eliminate outmoded programs.
•Provides leadership, direction, and vision for 10 full-time staff members and 2 graduate assistants.
•Develops, implements and carries out departmental policies and procedures, as well as, adheres to state and federal employment laws to reduce potential compliance risk.
•This position reports to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.

Minimum Requirements

- Master’s degree in Student Personnel, Counseling, Higher Education, Business Administration, or related area.

- Five years of progressively responsible experience in university career services, including an administrative leadership role; experience in supervision, budgeting, organizational planning, evaluation, and the use of current information technologies in career and employment counseling and development.

-In-depth knowledge of career development with college students
- Program planning skills, including the development, budgeting, staffing, marketing, implementation and evaluation of career programs and services
- Staff planning and supervision of professional, support and student staff members
- Ability to apply state-of-the-art technology to daily programs and services
- Strong counseling, communication, and public relations skills

Preferred formal education, professional skills and work experience

A doctoral degree in Student Personnel, Counseling, Higher Education, Business Administration, or related area is preferred, with ten years of progressively responsible experience in university career services, including an administrative leadership role; experience in supervision, budgeting, organizational planning, evaluation, and the use of current information technologies in career counseling and development. Additional experience in the business community, and specific experience in technology and assessment planning. Specialized skills in evaluating assessment data to inform program planning throughout Career Center’s functional areas.
