The Technician responsibilities will include isolation of polysaccharides and oligosaccharides from plant biomass before and after fermentation by bacteria. The position is responsible for performing glycosyl composition using gas chromatography (GC) and liquid chromatography (HPAEC-PAD). The position also involves purification of biomass fragments for NMR analysis. The Technician will performer NMR experiments and assist the PI with NMR data interpretation. Work also involves expression and purification of polysaccharide hydrolases and the application of MALDI-TOF spectrometric techniques for the characterization of the products of the enzymatic reactions. The position also involves preparation of writing reports, protocol optimization and some method development. The Technician will oversee and train undergraduate students in routine research techniques. The technician will give scientific presentation in internal and external meetings and will assist in the preparation of manuscript for scientific journals.

Perform NMR experiments and assist the PI with NMR data interpretation. The Technician will be able after adequate training to operate complex spectrometers and performer NMR experiments. The Technician will use MNova software to process NMR data and will learn to interpret NMR data for structural characterization of carbohydrates. This involves understanding of NMR spectroscopy, carbohydrate chemistry and cell wall polysaccharide structure.

This task will use sterile cell culture techniques, and protein expression and purification.
