18-Oct-2019 Close All Job SummaryThe Program for Teaching East Asia (TEA) at the Center for Asian Studies welcomes applications for a Senior Staff Associate. This research faculty position is charged with design and delivery of research projects and professional development projects in East Asian Studies for K-12 teachers, including, but not limited to, current grant-funded qualitative research programs and data collection/analysis on education change resulting from teacher professional development in Asian studies. The Senior Staff Associate will design, lead, and conduct follow-up assessments on annual programs, coordinate the work of seminar leaders in the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia, and undertake grant development.Who We AreNow in its 35th year, the Program for Teaching East Asia is a grant-funded program housed within the Center for Asian Studies. The mission of TEA is to enhance and expand teaching and learning about East Asia in K-12 educational settings through the development and administration of grant-funded programs in professional development programming for K-12 teachers, curriculum development, educational program evaluation, and research on curricular change. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
  • Design and delivery of research projects and professional development projects in East Asian Studies for K-12 teachers.
  • Develop evaluation tools and using those tools, conduct qualitative research and data collection/analysis on education change resulting from teacher professional development in Asian studies.
  • Conduct research to identify needs in secondary Asian studies education and develop implementation plans for meeting identified needs.
  • Evaluate annual professional development programs undertaken by TEA.
  • Coordinate the work of seminar leaders in the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia.
  • Prepare reports on evaluation findings and grant progress.
  • Undertake grant development.
What You Should KnowThis is a grant-funded position and is anticipated to begin on January 1, 2020. This position will require a flexible schedule and the ability to work irregular hours as may be required by project timelines. Travel, including weekend travel, to conferences and project-related assignments may be required. What We Can OfferSalary starts at $32,000 for a .50 FTE position, commensurate with experience. This position is CU benefits eligible. The position requires weekly time in the office but can accommodate some work from home, to be negotiated. Benefits

  • MA or Ph.D. in Asian studies; China studies preferred.
  • Three years of experience in educational program design, with emphasis on secondary in-service teacher training in Asian studies.
  • Three years of experience teaching to K-12 in-service teacher audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience in educational program evaluation.
  • Proven familiarity or previous experience working with existing K-12 Asian studies education projects, such as those at USDOE Title VI Centers and similar centers.
What You Will Need
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and teaching skills.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team with project PI and other senior staff.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • Experience in an academic research environment
  • Experience with grants and contracts
  • Experience in educational program design, with emphasis on secondary in-service teacher training in Asian studies.
  • Experience in designing and conducting educational program evaluation
  • Experience teaching to K-12 in-service teacher audiences.
  • Knowledge of or involvement with K-12 Asian Studies professional organizations and programs, such as the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia, the Association for Asian Studies Committee on Teaching about Asia, and/or the National Council for the Social Studies.
