The National Science Foundation Center for Integrated Pest Management (NSFCIPM) was established in 1991 to serve a lead role in technology development, program implementation, training, and public awareness for IPM at the state, regional, and national level. NSFCIPM fosters the development and implementation of pest management programs. NSF CIPM is an Industry / University Cooperative Research Center, which works to support and further Integrated Pest Management through the evaluation of emerging technologies, information management and dissemination, environmental stewardship, estimation of economic consequences, resistance management tools and systems, and integration of disciplinary expertise. The Center manages grants programs for the USDA, develops regional and national priorities through workshops and stakeholder meetings, and develops and maintains large databases and database applications for USDA, EPA, and Ministries of Agriculture in Europe, Africa and the Caribbean.Essential Job Duties
As a Research Scholar, this position will engage in research in support of USDA/APHIS/PPQ and CIPM cooperative agreements related to the spatial analytics of alien species with application to early warning systems for phytosanitary activities. The successful applicant will design and conduct quantitative spatial analyses to discover trends and patterns of alien invasive plant species. This position will focus on spatial data gathering and processing, spatial mapping, statistical analyses to assist pest risk assessments to determine the likelihood of new pest introduction and establishment in the United States.In addition, this GIS Analyst will be required to understand and expand the knowledge base of the spatial analytic framework for pest forecast called SAFARIS. Additional opportunities in the areas of pest risk analysis, international trade regulation, and invasive/endangered species interactions may be available for highly qualified applicants.
Individual will be required to work with others in a team environment.Other Work/Responsibilities
Present research findings at professional meetings and to extend these findings to key stakeholders.Minimum Education/Experience
Ph.D degree or relevant terminal degree.Departmental Required Skills

Ph.D (or relevant terminal degree) in entomology, plant pathology, biology, or related fields.
2+ years of experience in Geospatial Analytics.Required License or Certification
