Position Title:Company First Sergeant - Institutional Student Worker (Spring 2020) Campus Location:Dahlonega General Summary:

The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a Company First Sergeant. The Company First Sergeant serves as the Senior non-commissioned officer of the company and assists the Company Commander as required. The Company First Sergeant will distribute daily information up and down the chain of command through Platoon Sergeants, supervise all activities pertaining to company NCO’s and junior members of the Company, ensure that training is conducted properly, hold responsible for the maintenance, police, and orderliness of the company area and be responsible for company administration and personal management. The Company First Sergeant maintains daily contact with the Battalion Command Sergeant Major and Company Commander and Tactical Officer.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

The Company First Sergeant:

  • Conducts training as directed.
  • Forms the company for all formations and accounts for all personnel. Prepares company status reports.
  • Conducts morning inspections, PT, and all company activities.
  • Maintains the company bulletin board.
  • Personally inspects periodically to ensure standards are being maintained throughout the company.
  • Coordinates with the Battalion Sergeant Major for the Freshman of the Month.
  • Supervises cadet appearance standards and sets standards.
  • Coordinates with the unit advisor before implementing policies and activities.
  • Assists the company commander in implementing company policy.
  • Ensures that suspenses are met in a timely manner.
  • Supervises the company clerk in the conduct of his/her duties. Ensures proper preparation and distribution of all correspondence.
  • Acts as custodian of the trunk room and ensures its availability to cadets as needed. Responsible for its security and good order.
  • Responsible for clearance procedures of cadets when departing at the end of each quarter.
  • Maintains the roster for company duty. Supervises company duty personnel in the proper performance of duty and completion of assigned missions.
  • Ensures that cadets on tours, room arrest, and campus restriction are observing correct procedures. Ensures that Corps duty personnel are informed of their duty and report on time.
  • Counsels and develops subordinates. Ensures cadre know their jobs and are doing them correctly.
  • Makes on-the-spot corrections as required.
  • Advises the company commander routinely on matters pertaining to their duties.
  • Updates ABC and TOE rosters and floor plans in the Assistant Commandant's Office within 24 hours of any change.
  • Always sets the example for members of the company.
Certifications/Licenses & Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be an active member of the UNG Corps of Cadets
  • Minimum GPA of 2.90; Earned a minimum of 60 credit hours
  • Must have been a Cadet NCO or officer
  • Previous positions held in Corps of Cadets from Rifleman to Cadet Command Sargent Major (Freshman through Junior years)
  • Must appear before a Selection Board to be eligible and submit a memorandum to the selection board
  • Must be enrolled at the University of North Georgia in a minimum of six (6) credit hours to qualify as a student worker
