The Department of Romance and Classical Studies and the Second Language Studies Program at Michigan State University invite applications for a tenure-system position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 16, 2020. We seek candidates specializing in Spanish Applied Linguistics and/or Spanish Instructed Second Language Acquisition, or related areas.
The successful candidate will hold a primary appointment on an academic year basis in the Spanish Program in the Department of Romance and Classical Studies; they will also be appointed in the Second Language Studies Program. We seek candidates who can apply innovative research in Spanish language instruction and have experience teaching Spanish at the undergraduate level, teaching or supervising graduate students, and using a variety of instructional technologies. They will develop and implement the methodological direction of the first- and second-year language sequence in Spanish, and work closely with the Coordinator of Spanish Language Instruction, who supervises day-to-day administration of the language program. The faculty member will also have a partial appointment in the Second Language Studies Program with teaching and service responsibilities.Required Degree

Minimum requirements include Ph.D. completed and in hand by the appointment date of August 16, 2020 with specialization in Spanish Applied Linguistics, Spanish Instructed Second Language Acquisition, or related field. Candidates must show promise of strong scholarship and publication, a commitment to excellence in teaching, and the desire to work collaboratively with faculty in wider ranging fields within the Department of Romance and Classical Studies, the Spanish and SLS program and the College of Arts and Letters.
