Program Specialist for Assessment and Evaluation

Job description


In support of its vision of helping students to use service as a guiding lens for their educational experience and beyond, the Pace Center for Civic Engagement has a need for a Program Specialist for Assessment and Evaluation. This position is responsible for developing new rubrics and instruments for assessment and evaluation of how and what students learn from service experiences. Working in collaboration with Pace Center staff, campus partners and community partners, this position will create effective models, methods, and systems to gauge student learning as well as identify outcomes of Pace Center programs and related programming. The Pace Center for Civic Engagement supports Princeton University undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners with the resources to engage in meaningful service and learning. The position is a one-year term position reporting to the executive director of the Pace Center. 


Develop assessment and evaluation tools: The program specialist will develop assessment outcomes, indicators, and metrics for use by Pace Center programs, which support a broad range of student activities related to service and civic engagement, from community-engaged scholarship to advocacy and social innovation. Outcomes of interest include learning outcomes such as civic mindset and critical thinking as well as outcomes related to community partner experiences and impact. They will be responsible for developing and piloting instruments as well as training Pace and campus staff in their use as required. They will develop and implement new database and tracking systems for ongoing use.


Review and analyze existing data: Working with Pace staff and University partners, the specialist will conduct a comprehensive review and analysis of existing quantitative and qualitative data on service at Princeton. The program specialist will generate descriptive reports in support of Pace programming and strategic initiatives. They will have primary responsibility within the Pace Center for responding to requests for data.


Masters or Professional degree (M.B.A., J.D., etc.)

Work experience of 1 to 3 years

Strong quantitative analysis skills

Strong qualitative analysis skills

Demonstrated success in creating evaluation and research plans, including developing indicators and metrics related to experiential education outcomes and/or social impact

Demonstrated success in designing data collection tools and conducting data collection activities (e.g., surveys, interviews, focus groups)

Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
