The Jones Graduate School of Business is a top 25 MBA school with full-time, professionals evening and weekend, executive and on-line programs. The assistant director of admissions helps leads the school’s admissions efforts to bring in and yield the best incoming class of students across all MBA programs within the Recruiting and Admissions Office (RAO). The assistant director also supports the review process to admit students in the MBA@Rice program. The assistant director of admissions, along with the associate director of admissions, executive director, and the director of recruiting, implements the strategic direction and objectives of the admissions department, which in turn supports the school’s growth while simultaneously maintaining its culture and quality standards. The assistant director is responsible for not only the admission of students, but also helps execute the yield of the top most talented students.

This position ensures that our diversity efforts are assessed and in line to help the Jones School achieve national stature and be competitive with top 10 MBA schools in the country.

The ideal candidate for this position will bring a clear vision of the qualities that are required to be an MBA student at the Jones School, and will work with dedication toward the admission goals of the school.

Internal / External Contacts

Internal Contacts: The incumbent works with internal stakeholders, such as the Career Development Office, Student Programs Office, Alumni Affairs, External Relations, and Operations and Marketing.

External Contacts: The incumbent represents the Recruiting and Admissions office and Rice Business externally at various events. S/he will positively represent and reflect the Recruiting and Admissions Office’s culture and experience.

Physical Demands

- Must be able to handle large volumes of reported paperwork
- Occasionally move boxes and organize file cabinet space
- Ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time (up to eight hours a day)

Working Conditions

- Office environment
- Some evening and weekend hours are required. There are approximately 10 evening events and four weekend events per year
- The incumbent will work with executive director to determine regular office hours to ensure Recruiting and Admissions is available to support prospects, candidates, and students (e.g. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. / 9 a.m to 6 p.m. / 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.)

- Conducts market research of assigned territories
- Establishes and maintains strong relationships with current and prospective
students
- Responds to inquiries timely providing accurate information
- Conducts informational sessions for internal / external candidates on / off campus
- Works with other members of the admission staff on projects related to
communications, on-campus recruitment programs, internal training, the Rice Alumni
Volunteers for Admissions (RAVA), general or targeted recruitment activities, or other
projects as needed
- Reads, evaluates and makes recommendations regarding applications utilizing
admissions rating system
- Ensures compliance with federal and state laws regarding college admission,
FERPA, and affirmative action
- Manages assigned geographic territory(ies)
- Makes admissions decisions for all programs
- Develops and strengthens relationships with secondary schools or university
personnel, professional organizations, students, parents and alumni
- Coordinates onsite logistics for admission events
- Performs all other duties as assigned

- Works with the JGS marketing/communications office to develop print materials to market the various components of the full-time MBA program, including the primary admissions brochure and web information, in a timely manner
- Plans, manages, and implements marketing projects such as receptions, open houses, and contact campaigns to increase the applicant pool of the Rice MBA program
- Ensure that all strategic targets and metrics are in line for each incoming class
- Explores and implements practices and coordinates with the members of the R/A team
- Works with the director of diversity & inclusion (D&I) focusing on the integration of D&I efforts to ensure that admissions efforts are in-line and complementary of D&I efforts and to admitting top diversity candidates for the MBA program
