The Research Associate 1 supports research activities under the direction of a principle investigator, program director or designee of the principle investigator or program director.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

•Contributes to basic and applied research activities by collecting and analyzing data, maintaining databases, etc.

•Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.

•Participates in the publication of significant results.

•Advances expertise through continued education, training and/or research.

•Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.

•Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice and guidance.

Duties specific to College of Arts & Sciences:

The Lisse lab is looking to fill a Research Associate position in the Biology Department at the University of Miami. The Lisse lab is interested in how stem and resident skin cells behave at the molecular and cellular levels during the wound repair and healing processes. The RA will engage in understanding mechanisms of hormone and growth factor-induced hair and skin regeneration utilizing both cell culture and murine model systems. In part, the successful candidate will develop an independent research project under the guidance of the principle investigator, as well assist other lab members in their research projects related to hair and skin biology. In addition, he/she will handle general lab duties, such as ordering supplies, and organizing and maintaining lab notebooks, reagents, protocols, tissue/cell samples and databases. The successful candidate will further train undergraduate students in the lab, and should be able to present the research findings at group meetings and conferences.

Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related discipline, and exhibit some experience in general lab work and molecular biology. An understanding of mouse handling and genetics, and confocal imaging is preferred, but not required. Important general qualifications for this position are strong organizational skills, time management, problem-solving skills, and a strong work ethic/willingness to learn, and ease of adaptation to new working environments. The successful candidate must also enjoy working in a team setting.
