General: The Department of Communication in the College of Arts and Humanities at California State University, Fresno seeks applicants for a tenure-track, academic year position as an Assistant Professor in the role of Director of Forensics. The Director's primary responsibilities will be coaching and administering a forensics program that includes competitive NDT/CEDA policy debate and individual events. The Director will be expected to travel to a majority of tournaments on the team's travel schedule, provide active coaching, and help develop argument strategies. The Director will recruit and supervise graduate teaching associates and other members of the coaching staff to assist with coaching and travel. Commensurate with the Director's primary responsibilities for the forensics program, the successful candidate will teach courses associated with the debate and forensics program (with the opportunity to teach other undergraduate and graduate courses in the department curriculum), conduct scholarly research, and engage in service-related activities. Specific assignments are dependent on departmental needs and the background of the individual.

Qualifications:
Required Education (from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent.):
1. An earned Ph.D. in Communication or other closely related discipline, or a J.D. is required; however, applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered. For appointment, the doctorate must be completed by the date of appointment (8/1/2020).

Required Experience:
1. Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds;
2. Record of excellence coaching in a competitive policy debate program, with the potential for directing a program where students compete in policy debate and individual events (e.g., managing a budget, coordinating program logistics, and mentoring coaches);
3. Successful teaching experience;
4. Demonstrated potential for scholarly activity (e.g., conference presentations, publications).

Preferred Experience:
1. Record of success as a competitor in regional or national-level policy debate.
