    The Department of Kinesiology at California State University, Fresno invites applicants for one tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor / Associate Professor with a fall 2020 start date. The successful candidate is expected, but is not limited to 1) teach undergraduate and graduate courses in physical education pedagogy, curriculum design, and general kinesiology, 2) conduct and/or coordinate supervision of student-teachers in physical education using systematic observation techniques, 3) actively engage in a research and scholarship agenda that is innovative, informative, and reflective of issues relevant to physical education and physical activity at the regional, state, national and/or global levels, 4) provide academic and career advisement to students, 5) engage in service at all levels of university governance, and 6) engage in service to the professional discipline at the regional, state, national and/or international levels. The successful candidate may be called upon to instruct in an online teaching format and will be encouraged to develop web-enhanced and/or web-based instruction. The successful candidate will be expected to work cooperatively with faculty and staff in the department and school.

    Required Education:
    An earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Kinesiology or a closely-related discipline from an accredited degree-granting program is required for appointment. Qualifying degrees must be from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent. Applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered; the doctorate must be completed by August 1, 2020.

    Required Experience:
    Candidates are required to possess the following qualities:
  • Evidence of knowledge of physical education and kinesiology theory/curricula at the university level
  • Evidence of an active research agenda in scholarly journals or clear plan to establish such an agenda in physical education and kinesiology
  • A demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse race, ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds
    Appointment to the rank of Associate Professor requires a higher level of experience and accomplishment in teaching and scholarly productivity than that required for appointment at the Assistant Professor level.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Preference will be given to the candidates who demonstrate the following experiences:
  • Evidence of or potential for successful teaching in one or more of the following areas: physical education teacher education, elementary and/or secondary physical education methods, adaptive physical education, aquatics
  • Evidence of successful teaching experience in physical education and kinesiology theory/curricula at the university level
  • K-12 physical education teaching experience with state-issued teaching credential/certification (current or expired)
  • Evidence of experience or ability at conducting systematic field observations, internships and supervision of student teachers in physical education
  • Demonstrate potential or experience in service-learning, and supervising and mentoring student research
  • Demonstrate ability to create and maintain relationships with the Kindergarten - Grade 12 school settings, and other kinesiology and exercise science-related community groups and organizations
  • Demonstrate experience or potential to chair and serve on graduate thesis and project committees
  • Experience or potential for acquiring and administering external grants for research and/or scholarly activities
  • Demonstrated active affiliation and participation in state, national and/or international professional organizations of Kinesiology (e.g., SHAPE America, CAHPERD, NAKHE, AKA, ACSM)
