Position Status: Full-Time

Position Summary:
Department of Biology. The Laboratory Technician assists the Laboratory Coordinator and Student Assistants in preparation of teaching laboratory set-up and general laboratory equipment maintenance.

Essential Functions

  • Provides support for the operation, maintenance, development, and instruction of assigned non-major laboratory courses.
  • Prepares, sets-up, and breaks down laboratory materials and exercises and cleans laboratory equipment (e.g. microscopes) after use.
  • Maintains and cleans teaching laboratories and stock rooms.
  • Updates inventory of instructional and laboratory materials, including chemicals; assesses material supply levels for restock; receives, logs, and stores purchased instructional and laboratory materials.
  • Assists with lecture and lab demonstrations for staff.
  • Follows procedure on safe use, storage, and disposal of hazardous material and promotes use of safety equipment and procedures in the laboratory by staff and students.
  • Collects and maintains teaching specimens and laboratory cultures (e.g. algae, bacteria).
  • Assists with design and testing of new laboratory exercises and activities.

    Associate’s Degree or two years of post-secondary education

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
    Effective communication (verbal and written), organization and human relations skills; ability to work well in a diverse environment; proficiency with computer and Microsoft Office Applications software including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases; legally authorized to work in the United States; successful completion of background investigation prior to employment

    Salary Range: $25,500 - $31,200
