Position Title: Affiliate Professor in Chemistry beginning August 6, 2020.

Summary: Individuals will be appointed for one academic year, or fiscal year, on a full-time or part-time basis. This may be renewed once for an additional academic, or fiscal year. Thereafter, such individuals may be appointed for three (3) consecutive academic or fiscal years.

Required Qualifications and Education: Candidates must have a minimum of a master's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or related field, and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate education. The degree must be completed by the start date.

Preferred Qualifications and Education: Candidates with teaching experience as well as a completed degree in biochemistry or organic chemistry are preferred.

Responsibilities – Essential Functions: Responsibilities for this position include teaching lectures and labs in general chemistry, and introductory organic chemistry or biochemistry. Additional teaching assignments may be made depending on the individual’s expertise/interests and departmental needs. Affiliate professors are also expected to engage in professional development that enhances their role as chemistry educators. The Department values candidates who demonstrate an ability to work in a collaborative environment with a diverse population of colleagues and students. Affiliate faculty typically teach 12 to 15 contact hours per week in lecture, discussion, and lab settings.

Campus: The Chemistry Department is housed primarily at the Allendale Campus, although some teaching assignments may be at our nearby Pew Campus in Grand Rapids.
