Lone Star College-System Office employees are based at one of two System Office locations; The Woodlands and University Park. Both are the site for multiple administrative departments and system-wide training programs.

Job Description PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Specialist II, Library Technical Services Serials maintains, checks in, and processes all serials, newspapers, and journals that belong to our campuses and centers. He or She ensures that the system office employees have access to circulation items.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Check in, process and route to the Libraries and Centers all paper periodicals and serials, bound serials using Symphony.Maintain serial holding records, summary of holdings record, copy records, and item records in Symphony.Select and download serial bibliographic records from OCLC into Local Library Management System (Symphony). Revise and maintain serial Local Holding Records in OCLC.Notify libraries and centers whenever a title changes, ceases publication, changes in publication pattern, or is deleted.Monitor missing serial issues during Symphony check-in process and submit claims to vendors via vendor's website or acquires missing serial issues through missing copy bank.Prepare serial renewals and new title acquisitions.Prepare library materials for bindery, arrange vendor pickups & returns, receive bound materials, and reprocess materials.Responsible for checking in and checking out books, DVD's, audiobooks, etc. for System Office/SOUP employees.

Must be able to adapt to changes in vendor's softwareWorking knowledge of library management systems and OCLCAbility to prioritize tasksDemonstrate effective written and oral communication skillsStrong attention to detailAbility to work on multiple projects

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipmentInterface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the positionWork is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or GED and 1 year of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate's degreeExperience working with Symphony Library Management System

Salary

Hiring Salary is $30,000
