Position Description

The Academic Resource Center (ARC) Assistant works to increase student retention and success by matching students seeking academic support with qualified peer tutors and/or appropriate NTC faculty.

Work hours will be assigned by the supervisor and may be subject to change as workload and needs of our customers and work areas change.

This position is part-time (27 hrs/wk, 42 wks) and is accountable to the Dean of General Studies.

Duties & Responsibilities


  • Coordinate academic support initiatives across the College, working with students, instructors and staff.
  • Work with NTC faculty to facilitate study groups and/ or Supplemental Instruction initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Dean and faculty to recruit, schedule, and train peer tutors.
  • Assess individual student needs and provide a tutor who can best support the student's success and learning style.
  • Support the student/tutor match as it proceeds, collaborating with deans and faculty to resolve potential issues in a timely manner.
  • Organize and implement tutoring venues for regional campus and online students.
  • Market the Academic Resource Center across the college using print, website, in person and other available media; participate in New Student Orientation and other College events to communicate ARC services,
  • Collaborate across the College with Programs, College Prep Center, Center for Students with Disabilities, and Student Success Team to support student learning, retention and graduation.
  • Document activities for reporting and client record keeping processes.
  • Develop and administer customer feedback process for tutoring consumers and participants. Use feedback for tutoring program improvements.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to verify work study funds or student employment eligibility, and ensure all tutors' new hire paperwork is complete and turned in to Human Resources prior to start date.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


  • A minimum of two years' post-secondary education appropriate to position responsibilities with at least two (2) years of office/administrative assistant experience preferred.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to assume responsibility without direct supervision, exercise initiative and judgment and make decisions within the scope of authority.
  • Requires working knowledge of computer software, office procedures, organizational skills, time management, multi-tasking skills, and creativity and resourcefulness to resolve problems independently and within teams.
  • Demonstrated strong customer service skills and ability to relate to and work with special student populations
  • Demonstrated proficiency with word processing, with a minimum keyboard speed of 45gwpm, database management, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint) and Lotus Notes.
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty and staff across the NTC District

Additional Physical Requirements:
Vision: Adequate with aid to read instructions, labels, documents, computer screens, and differentiate between colors.
Hearing: Adequate with aid to understand oral requests, telephone conversation, and PA systems.

Required Employee Program Safety Training:
Emergency action plan, emergency procedures, ergonomics (office/workplace) and slips, trips and falls.
