The University of Washington Tacoma invites applications for a full‐time Lecturer/Practicum Coordinator position in Social Work beginning September 16, 2020. This is a nine‐month renewable position with appointment terms of 1‐5 years. This position is non‐tenure track. The successful candidate will teach approximately 5 courses per academic year, with optional and additionally compensated teaching opportunities during Summer quarter. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the position also will provide oversight to the Simon Family Endowment. The Endowment provides fellowships for graduate-level practicum placements for students working with individuals on the Autism Spectrum or with other developmental disabilities. The successful candidate will also participate in committee work, serve as faculty advisor to a designated number of undergraduate and graduate students, and take an active role in the activities of the School of Social Work and Criminal Justice.

The School of Social Work and Criminal Justice at UW Tacoma offers three degrees. The Master of Social Work (MSW) program includes a part‐time evening program with approximately 130 students and an Advanced Standing evening program with 30 students. The Bachelor of Arts in Social Welfare (BASW) program enrolls approximately 110 students. The School also offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice with both on‐campus and online delivery formats and offers a multidisciplinary understanding of crime and justice.

Position Functions:

The main functions of the Lecturer/Practicum Coordinator are to teach assigned courses at the BASW and MSW levels, and to provide oversight of the Simon Family Endowment.

Oversight of the Simon Family Endowment will include coordination with the UW Tacoma Development Office; recruitment and mentoring of related practicum agencies; recruitment, selection and monitoring of students receiving fellowships; development and delivery of academic enrichment activities for those students; serving as Field Instructor as needed; and coordinating with the School’s Office of Field Education.

Salary and Contract:

Salary for this nine‐month position is competitive and commensurate with experience and background. The Lecturer/Practicum Coordinator hired through this announcement will be eligible for promotion and multi‐year (1‐5 year) contracts, renewable upon performance.


Qualifications:
  • MSW from a CSWE accredited institution or foreign equivalent;
  • Minimum of three years full‐time post MSW practice experience in any area of social work;
  • Experience with higher education teaching of human service-related courses;
  • Practice and/or teaching experience related to Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or developmental disabilities;
  • Experience in social justice work within diverse communities;
  • Experience in supervising social work practicum students and/or coordinating practicums for social work students;
  • Experience working and collaborating with community agencies/organizations.
