Job Description:


Working with the Health and Wellness Coordinator and other stakeholders across the college, establish a college-wide Basic Needs Initiative related to student food, housing and financial insecurity. Found and convene a Basic Needs Advisory Committee. The overall goal is to find ways to help students address unmet needs for food, transportation, housing, and overall wellness security, and to ensure that no student has to suffer academically for economic reasons.


Beginning first with New York City and including the Black Male Initiative, the incumbent will coordinate, implement, and evaluate non-clinical services around student basic needs and food security efforts. S/he will support prospects and students as they learn to navigate the complexities of federal and state aid programs and applications, including financial aid for college. The coordinator will develop and maintain relationships with campus and community partners. S/he will raise awareness of and advocate for basic needs issues. S/he will lead, support, and promote student success programs and recruitment activities.


The successful candidate will be passionate about social justice and ensuring that students are able to be self-sustaining around basic needs and will have the determination to help people attain an education and gain socioeconomic mobility. This work requires strong communication and collaboration skills and the interpersonal skills to interact effectively with diverse students, service organizations, college offices, and a wide range of stakeholders. It also requires knowledge of basic needs security issues, particularly among diverse adult student populations and an understanding of the challenges faced by under-served populations, particularly around basic needs security.


The incumbent will work closely with culturally diverse faculty, staff and students in a multicultural learning work environment.




Requirements:


Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in related area
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Excellent judgment and decision-making, problem solving, and organizational skills
  • Experience in the application of advising and counseling techniques

Preferred Experience:


  • Master's degree in social work, community health, higher education, human services, or related field
  • Previous experience with basic needs initiatives in higher education
  • Experience in developing and launching new initiatives
  • Skills and experience in identifying measures of effectiveness in service of continuous improvement; and project management skills




Additional Information:



Rank/Salary: $50,000- $55,000


Special Information:


  • This position requires regular travel to the college's NYC locations and occasional travel in NYS
  • May require some evening and weekend hours
  • VISA sponsorship is not available for this position
