St. Charles Community College is located just west of St. Louis, nestled in the heart of growing St. Charles County. Established in 1986, SCC is a public, comprehensive two-year community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs in the arts, business, sciences and career-technical fields. SCC also provides workforce training and community-based personal and professional development as well as cultural, recreational and entertainment opportunities.

We are seeking a full-time Graphic Designer who will conceive, create, and produce artwork for various advertising, promotions, and publications for the college. Includes extensive computer design and layout work as well as using the computer to prepare camera-ready and/or electronic art files for printers. Some videography and video editing included.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    Operates Macintosh computer and peripherals. Utilizes professional level computer-based drawing, photo manipulation, page layout, video production and post-production and various other software to design and create publications, advertising and art for print, web and other electronic media. Works in multi-faceted environment with multitude of projects. Organizes, designs, and produces artwork for print, electronic and web advertising, brochures and booklets, flyers, posters, T-shirts, logos, and other publications. Photographs college events and people (portraits), including the use of specialized studio/strobe lighting and advanced digital SLR cameras and lenses.Optimizes highly technical electronic files for electronic output. Accesses, inputs and retrieves information from computer art files. Collaborates regularly with Director of Marketing and other MAC Department staff to produce and update publications and other marketing tools. Remains current in design trends, especially trends in higher education marketing and marketing to target demographics.Provides high quality service during consultations to internal clients for best approach to design and completion of various design/marketing projects. Works directly with outside vendors for best quality and most efficient final output of print and digital marketing materials.Attends meetings and college functions as assigned, including set-up and assistance with special events. Takes part in campus committees as needed.

Education and/or Experience

    Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred. Degree(s) should be in graphic arts, communication, or related field. Skills/knowledge required include typography, composition, design for print and digital media, video and motion graphics, photography, color theory, art production for web applications, and print production. Additional skills preferred include photography and post-production photo editing/manipulation, and videography.
    Requires two years previous full-time experience, with a minimum of two years in computer graphics, one year design and production, one year electronic file preparation.
    Software requirements include: Adobe Creative Suite (9 or newer), with specific use of InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Premiere or AfterEffects. The job also entails the use Adobe Lightroom, FTP site upload programs, and stock photo websites. Must be able to use the Macintosh computer, mouse, keyboard, CD Rom drive, and the following peripherals: black-and-white laser printer, color laser printer, banner printer and poster plotter. The job entails the use of Pantone color guides and, occasionally, conventional art/drafting tools.
    Knowledge of Macintosh computer system and peripherals is required. Also required: knowledge of graphics/software used in production of electronic artwork. Knowledge of electronic file formats and their uses including: EPS, TIFF, GIF, JPEG, PNG, PSD, AI, INDD, SWF, FLA, FLV, PICT, BMP, LAB, INDEXED COLOR is preferred; knowledge of trapping of spot colors, image resolution and half-toning of color and grayscale images; RGB color space and knowledge of scanning and file acquisition for four-color process, grayscale and bit-mapped images.
    Background and knowledge of integrating design and text/copy is required. This knowledge should include the ability to collect information (written and verbal) from various sources; then conceptualize and organize it -- in combination with graphic components -- into publications, brochures and ads that are visually pleasing and easily understood.
