Shenandoah University’s Academic Computing Technology (ACT) in the Center for Learning and Technology (CTLT) is accepting applications for an Academic Classroom Support Specialist (ACSS – I). This is a full-time benefited position located on our main campus in Winchester, Virginia.

The successful candidate will possess a strong working knowledge of audio, digital video and control principles – cabling, signal paths, connection types, and troubleshooting concepts.

Principal Responsibilities:

Classroom A/V Technology Support: Work with internal and external groups to ensure that A/V systems in classrooms are operational, fully functioning and ready for classes to begin daily.

  • Verify workstation, room controls, wireless mics, projectors are in working order
  • Troubleshoot any issues and escalate issues if necessary
  • Support / coordinate the technology support for all multi-campus school events such as Director’s or Dean’s meeting executive weekends, etc.
  • Document and report technology support issues
  • Provide a root cause analysis of any issue impacting faculty and/or scheduled classes.
  • Summarize and report issues to the Director

Live Event / ACT Desk Support: Work with internal and external groups to ensure technology support for live events and equipment rentals meet end user’s’ needs.

  • Consult with faculty and staff to determine needs for live events
  • Assemble, monitor, and disassemble audio visual, video teleconferencing equipment as needed
  • Prioritize work order tickets to meet end user needs for academic technology services
  • Assist in equipment purchasing, inventory, rentals

Faculty support:

  • Work with faculty and staff to ensure familiarity with enterprise supported hardware and software
  • Troubleshoot A/V problems quickly so that classes can start on time
  • Development of documentation where needed to support end users

Organize and conduct faculty/staff training on the use of new technology and any new faculty technology training regarding major technology systems.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent work experience; minimum two years of experience in classroom technology including audio, video and network environments.

The following skills, knowledge, and abilities are required:

  • Strong customer service ethic.
  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft and Apple operating systems, commonly used browsers, and be able to use video technologies. Familiarity with video teleconferencing systems and standards is a plus.
  • Work effectively and communicate with a broad range of users who have varied levels of familiarity with technology.
  • Ability to follow supervisor direction in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred experience includes a working knowledge of and experience in using:

  • Cisco Telepresence Management System (TMS)
  • AMX Room Management System (RMS)
  • Digital Sound Processing using Biamp, Tisera, Nexia
  • Infocomm Certifications: Certified Technology Specialist (CTS), (CST-D)
  • Apple Remote Desktop
  • Enterprise lecture recording software
  • Learning management systems such as Canvas

Physical Requirements: May be subject on short notice to temporary changes in normal working hours. May work in confined spaces. Must have the ability to install wall and ceiling mounted systems and climb ladders.

Shenandoah's History

Dayton, Virginia was Shenandoah’s home for 85 years. In 1875, the university was founded there as Shenandoah High School. Over the next 85 years, the institution changed names six times but always kept “Shenandoah” as part of its name. In 1946, the school nearly closed due to financial concerns. Rather than closing the school, university president Dr. Forrest S. Racey oversaw the move to Winchester. The last classes in Dayton began in the fall of 1959 with an enrollment of 159 students. Shenandoah opened its doors in Winchester in September 1960.

 

In Winchester, the school began to thrive and, in 1991, became Shenandoah University.
