06-Nov-2019 Close All Job SummaryThe CU Police Department welcomes applications for a Community Safety Official (Security I). This position must communicate regularly with Officers, building proctors, facilities management, and other campus partners regarding policy violations, criminal or suspicious activity, and the Community Safety Program. The incumbent must maintain regular liaison with the Police Department and the Events and Emergency Management division regarding any suspicious activity. The incumbent maintains a visible presence and acts as a visible point of contact and coordination for Academic buildings on campus and high traffic areas of campus. The main function of this position focuses on access control for campus buildings, detection of policy violations with appropriate referral application, and security patrols for campus buildings and areas of concern.Who We AreThe members of the University of Colorado Boulder Police Department (CUPD) are dedicated to providing the highest quality police services in order to enhance community safety, protect life and property, and reduce crime and the fear of crime. To do this, we pledge to develop a partnership with the community, to lead a community commitment to resolve problems, and to improve the safety and quality of life for all CU affiliates. The CUPD is a full-service police agency with 51 sworn and 40 non-sworn employees providing community-based public safety services to a diverse community of 36,000 affiliates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, all year long. Every year the department responds to approximately 20,000 calls for service and ensures the safety and security for all of their PAC-12 Conference athletic events with attendance at football games exceeding 50,000 fans. Patrolling the campus by foot, bicycle, motorcycle, and vehicle, the CU-Boulder police work diligently with the University community and surrounding agencies to ensure a prompt and coordinated law enforcement response.What Your Key Responsibilities Will BeSecurity Patrols
  • Maintain visible and routine security patrols.
  • Identify and address any policy or law violations.
  • Evaluate, report and resolve any security and/or infrastructure issues.
  • Unlock and lock buildings Academic buildings or Housing and Dining buildings as designated by contracts.
Database Proficiency
  • Completion of report writing.
  • Include both routine patrol logs and lengthier incident reports.
  • Multi-functional database access and use for information gathering.
Additional Duties
  • Certain functions or facilities may require additional or particular tasks to be performed beyond security patrols.
  • May be required to work in other areas or divisions as needed due to operational needs/requirements.
  • Must be able to participate in special projects and assignments that are consistent with the operational needs of the police department and academic community.
What You Should Know
  • This is a part-time, 50% time position.
  • You will work approximately 20 hours per week. Specific work hours may vary.
  • As part of the background check process, finalists will be requested to complete a personal history questionnaire.
  • Per department policy, applicants who have used marijuana within two years of application will be disqualified.

What We Would Like You To Have
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Extensive customer service experience.
  • Prior experience in law enforcement, military or security fields of work.
  • Experience working within a university setting, which included customer service or security-related responsibilities.
  • Experience working in a team setting.
