The El Camino Community College District is now accepting applications for an anticipated part-time faculty position for the following course during the spring 2020 semester:
JAPANESE 25, CULTURAL ASPECTS OF THE JAPANESE LANGUAGE
This course provides a study of the cultural aspects of the Japanese language, including the origin of the Japanese people and their language, art, religion, philosophy, and geography. The anthropological and sociological characteristics relating to the language and a comparison of Japanese and Western languages and cultures are also covered. This course is taught in English.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in language being taught; OR
Bachelor's degree in language being taught AND Master's in another language or linguistics; OR
The equivalent - Candidates not possessing the required qualifications as stated above must explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above; OR
Valid California community college instructor credential in appropriate subject (per California Education Code 87355 issued prior to July 1, 1990); AND
Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of college students, and of individuals with disabilities.
College-level teaching experience.
Familiarity with current foreign language teaching strategies, methods, and materials.
Academic preparation in the culture and society of the foreign language.
Coursework and teaching experience relevant to teaching Japanese culture.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Part-time teaching assignment(s) for the spring semester, beginning February 15, 2020. Teaching assignments may include off-site locations. Offer and acceptance of employment is subject to verification of all information provided on the employment application, credential(s), and transcripts. Candidates selected for employment must agree to be fingerprinted, submit Certificate of Completion of the Tuberculosis Risk Assessment and/or Examination, provide proof of eligibility for employment in the United States, and present a valid Social Security card upon hire.PART-TIME SALARY RANGE
Part-time faculty members are compensated on a semester basis according to the number of class hours assigned per semester and on cumulative semesters of instruction for the District. The beginning rate is $89.92 - $108.33 (lecture), $68.15 - $82.09 (lab) per hour depending on education and experience.
