Founded in 1916, Sacramento City College (SCC) is a multi-campus, urban college that consists of a 70-acre main campus across from William Land Park. The college has two educational centers, one in Davis on the campus of the University of California, Davis, and one in West Sacramento located adjacent to the public library, community center and civic center. SCC is a vibrant teaching and learning institution with approximately 20,000 day and evening students and is recognized as both a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI).

Our Strengths
SCC has a rich history in the community and has expanded educational opportunities to students across the region. SCC awards Associate in Arts or Science degrees as well as Associate Degrees for Transfer, which guarantee transfer into the California State University system. The college offers Career Education certificates and degrees, transfer credit for students who desire to continue their education at a four-year college or university, and instruction in basic skills such as English, English as a second language, and mathematics.

Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Vice President of Instruction and the Associate Vice President of Instruction, the Dean of Mathematics, Statistics and Engineering performs duties in the administration and supervision of the instructional area including instructor assignments, staff development, class schedules, facilities utilization, staff evaluation, curriculum development and evaluation, budget recommendations, planning, data collection, and administration of day, extended day, weekend, summer offerings and the Mathematics, Engineering, and Science Achievement (MESA) program.

The Dean of Mathematics, Statistics and Engineering provides general supervision of the affairs of the area, coordinates the activities of the faculty and staff of the area, works with district and college staff in all areas of responsibility.

Assignment Responsibilities

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to:
● Providing leadership for the continuous development of the Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, and MESA programs as well as the Math Lab.
● Promoting student success and improving student learning outcomes.
● Providing facilitation and guidance in the establishment of student outcomes and the assessment of these outcomes in order to determine the effectiveness of student learning in this area.
● Working with department chairs in the development of the class schedule, unit plans, and program plans.
● Developing and administering the division budget.
● Assuming responsibility for faculty and staff evaluation and development.
● Facilitating articulation of division programs with other institutions, both K-12 and higher education, and developing partnerships with external agencies.
● Working with the coordinators of programs such as Learning Communities, Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS), Umoja, and Summer Success Academy to schedule and staff appropriate courses for students in these programs.
● Working with programs and services such as Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS), Assessment, Counseling, Student Equity, Honors, and Basic Skills Initiative to address the needs of students.
● Working with division disciplines as they evolve and integrate with other disciplines under Guided Pathways.
● Working with faculty and staff to conceptualize division offerings and how they serve students across the curriculum.
● Working cooperatively with the administrative team in support of college goals.
● Facilitating prerequisite verification and milestone setting for mathematics and statistics courses.
● Providing leadership and coordination in the use of instructional facilities in the division.
● Assuming a leadership and coordinative role in curriculum development and evaluation.
● Performing duties in the administration and supervision of the division.
● Providing leadership for the integration of general education and programs.
● Providing leadership and assisting faculty in the development and administration of grants.
● Facilitating communication between the Mathematics, Statistics and Engineering Division and the college at large.
● Preparing and assisting in reports as necessary.
● Serving on or chairs college governance committees.
● Serving on the appropriate administrative leadership teams.
● Fostering a completion culture which encourages degrees, certificates, job preparation and transfer.
● Performing other duties as assigned.

The administrative assignment may include day, evening, weekend, and/or off-campus work and/or hours.

1. Have a master’s degree* from an accredited institution completed by January 1, 2020.

2. Have one year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator’s administrative assignment.

3. Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.
