The position provides comprehensive advising and support to students in the Pathway to the Baccalaureate Program at the Loudoun Campus, via a case management support model.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Pathway to the Baccalaureate Retention Advisor provides:
•Case management advising, including academic advising, financial aid support, registration assistance, transfer and career advising, troubleshooting and resolving student concerns in face-to-face and virtual advising formats.
•Tracks student progress and provide ongoing support and guidance to students in the program.
•Collaborates with the Program Director, Coordinators and staff to administer program.
•Plans and implements educational, cultural and social events for students.
•Plans and facilitates educational workshops for program participants at on-campus and off-campus sites.
•Collects and reports program data and assist leadership team with program evaluation.
•Bachelor’s degree and prior experience providing student services in a K-12 or post-secondary setting.
Preferred Qualifications•Master’s degree with 18 graduate semester hours in counseling or related field.
•Extensive prior experience in academic advising and/or community college setting.
•Bilingual proficiency.
•Skill in written communication including the development of letters, memos, presentations, and workshop materials
•Skill in oral communication including large and small group presentations and facilitating workshops
•Ability to research information on careers and transfer institutions
•Ability to work cooperatively with students, parents, faculty members and staff members; Demonstrated computer proficiency including using Microsoft Office, email, PeopleSoft Student Information System, Adobe Acrobat Reader and use of the Internet to complete research
•Critical thinking skills, manage multiple tasks and problem-solve various issues in a timely manner
•Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a diverse student population
•Ability to work one evening per week and occasional weekend hours
•Ability to travel locally to participating program sites as needed
The selected candidate’s offer is contingent upon the successful completion of an extensive criminal background
investigation, which may include: fingerprint checks, local agency checks, employment verification, verification of
education, credit checks (relevant to employment), and other checks requested by the VCCS and NOVA such as
I-9 and E-Verify requirements. Additionally, selected candidates may be required to complete the Commonwealth’s
Statement of Economic Interest.
