Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream - English and Chinese Translation

Job FieldThe Centre for French and Linguistics at the University of Toronto Scarborough invites applications for a full-time teaching stream position in the area of English and Chinese translation. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, and will commence on July 1, 2020, or shortly thereafter.
Applicants must have earned a PhD in translation studies or closely related fields by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching. We seek candidates whose teaching interests complement and strengthen our existing departmental strengths, and who have ample experience in teaching translation theory and practice, English and Chinese bilingual reading and writing courses, and comparative study of English and Chinese linguistics. Candidates must have teaching expertise in a degree granting program at the undergraduate level, including lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development, and development of online material/lectures. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue innovative teaching and experiential education, and to further develop an outstanding English and Chinese translation program. Additionally, candidates must possess a demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical practices and a demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activities and also have pedagogical research experience in a translation program between English and Chinese in North American universities. 
Evidence of excellence in teaching and pedagogical inquiry can be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, awards and accolades, presentations at significant conferences, the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application including a strong teaching statement, sample syllabi, course materials, and teaching evaluations, as well as strong letters of reference from referees of high standing. It is an asset to have earned credentials in the translation industry.
