Department Description

Radiation oncology is a clinical and scientific specialty devoted to the management of patients with cancer (and occasionally, a few non-malignant conditions) through the use of ionizing radiation alone, or in combination with surgery and/or chemotherapy. Radiation oncology is a highly-integrated, multidisciplinary medical specialty involving close interactions between physicians, physicists and dosimetrists, nurses, biomedical scientists, computer scientists, engineers, radiotherapy technologists, nutritionists, social workers and other support staff.

The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is a tertiary care cancer facility and is affiliated with the UNC School of Medicine, UNC Healthcare, and the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. We offer external beam radiotherapy using linear accelerators (“heliotherapy”), both high and low dose rate interstitial or intracavitary radiotherapy (“brachytherapy”), total body irradiation, stereotactic radiosurgery, intraperitoneal P-32, and other specialized therapies for both the curative and palliative treatment of cancer. The Department also has active research programs in clinical oncology, radiation biology, and medical physics, and is an acknowledged world leader in the area of computer-aided radiotherapy treatment planning (in collaboration with the UNC Departments of Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, and Radiology).

Position Description

This position will be instrumental in supporting the division of Physics as we integrate Mosaiq (RadOnc planning and billing system) and Epic across all our satellites (Caldwell, High Point, Rex, Smithfield, Clayton). This includes initiating and preparing the complex monthly Physics/Physics Residents Away clinic schedule for UNC which includes Physics of the Day (POD) coverage as well as logistics for training and covering other sites as needed.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Excellent communication (written and verbal), organization, and multitasking skills are required.

Must maintain excellent external/internal customer relationships by handling questions and concerns with speed and professionalism.

Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is a must.

Preferred Qualifications

Prefer experience with EPIC and Mosaiq. Experience in an academic clinical setting or healthcare setting is highly preferred.

Location: UNC is located in the heart of Chapel Hill, the best college town in America! It's a friendly town of about 40,000 in the geographical center of North Carolina. Chapel Hill is at the western point of the Research Triangle, an area of about one million people, comprised of Chapel Hill, the cities of Durham and Raleigh, and the Research Triangle Park, home of many corporate offices and scientific research centers.
