Position Description

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a creative, detail-oriented and strategically minded professional for the position of Digital Marketing Manager in the Office of University Development. Reporting to the Digital Marketing Director, the Digital Marketing Manager will join a fast-paced marketing team that supports and celebrates all aspects of private giving at the University, including the University’s historic $4.25 billion fundraising campaign, For All Kind: the Campaign for Carolina.

The Digital Marketing Manager will work collaboratively to develop and implement University Development’s owned digital media marketing strategy by using email and social media platforms to authentically engage internal and external constituencies of the University Development Office of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The Digital Marketing Manager will be responsible for strategically expanding the University’s social media following and engagement by creating original content for social media channels, including but not limited to photographs, video and written content; light video and photo editing skills are needed. The candidate will recommend social media listening, monitoring and analysis tools, and employ them as needed. In addition, the Digital Marketing Manager will deploy social media advertising campaigns, in alignment with University Development marketing plans.

In partnership with the Associate Director of Marketing Content, the Digital Marketing Manager will develop and implement planning and execution of campaign-related e-newsletters, including identifying story ideas and developing original content. This individual will also develop and manage an integrated owned digital content calendar, aligned with broader University Development marketing plans, to highlight University Development initiatives, broaden our community of support and enhance public perception.

This position requires the ability to fully understand and embrace the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the University Development Office and the Campaign for Carolina brands, understand the motivations of University Development’s various audiences, and monitor and master emerging marketing trends and practices. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong marketing skills and skills in analytical thinking; an ability to communicate clearly and persuasively; a detail oriented nature; the ability to work well with colleagues, students, faculty and donors and treat all with great care; and a commitment to Carolina’s mission to lead society forward, closer to a world of opportunity and prosperity for all kind. Experience in higher education and development marketing a plus.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

The successful candidate will have experience managing digital marketing channels including email, digital advertising, and social media including: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, Snapchat, Pinterest and others. The individual must have exceptional: judgment, writing, analytical, organizational, relationship-building, and interpersonal skills in order to carefully make real-time decisions about how best to represent the University in online conversations and other content.

The Digital Marketing Manager must be able to work with other content creators in the University Development Office and across campus to develop and implement integrated communications initiatives, including email and social media campaigns. In addition, the Digital Marketing Manager must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of UNC-Chapel Hill’s history, traditions and mission in order to authentically connect with and engage the intended audience of the University Development office.

The Digital Marketing Manager must monitor and be aware of conversations on social media channels about the University and share trends and observations. The Digital Marketing Manager must be able to analyze the performance of digital content and e-newsletters and offer insight and opportunities to improve the performance of these communications.

The Digital Marketing Manager must be able to help other communications professionals across the campus community develop and enhance their social media efforts. The Digital Marketing Manager must stay abreast of innovations, techniques and technologies that can be utilized by the University and must show sound judgement in social media practices and campus conversations.

Preferred Qualifications

-Two (2) to four (4) years of experience related to the area of assignment, including managing social media and email accounts for an organization.
- Experience with Google and social media analytics.
- Experience with email design and deployment, including working knowledge of HTML.
- Familiarity with video and graphics editing and production, including the Adobe software suite.
- Knowledge of Wordpress CMS a plus.
- Knowledge of AP writing style a plus.
