General Description / Primary Purpose

The Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work at the University of North Florida (UNF) seeks a full time (nine-month), tenure-track faculty member in Archaeology with a specialization in zooarchaeology at the level of Assistant Professor to begin in August 2020.

The successful candidate should be able to teach courses in archaeology, zooarchaeology, environmental anthropology, archaeological conservation, archaeological methods and theory, complemented by the ability to teach general core courses and electives for the anthropology program. The successful candidate should also be available to conduct one or more of the following: summer schools, study abroad programs, and internships. In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research agenda including publication in peer-reviewed outlets and securing external research funding, and to make meaningful service contributions to the department, the university, and the discipline.

All candidates must have an earned Ph.D. in Anthropology by August 1, 2020.

Departmental Requirements

The successful candidate should be able to teach courses in archaeology, zooarchaeology, environmental anthropology, archaeological conservation, archaeological methods and theory, complemented by the ability to teach general core courses and electives for the anthropology program. The successful candidate should also be available to conduct one or more of the following: summer schools, study abroad programs, and internships. We especially seek candidates who complement the regional and methodological expertise of existing faculty.

In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research agenda including publication in peer-reviewed outlets and securing external research funding, and to make meaningful service contributions to the department, the university, and the discipline. UNF faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of academic excellence in all phases of instruction, research/scholarship/creative activity, and service.
