Advertising Summary

Reporting to the Biology Lab Supervisor, the Biology Laboratory Assistant will give assistance to Biology Lab Technicians to maintain and prepare labs for biology courses. This position requires working collaboratively with staff to provide a quality lab experience for biology lab courses and help maintain orderly facilities. Assistant must abide by the Safety Policies and Procedures of the JJC Natural Science Department.

Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday between the hours of 9 am and 4 pm.
Total hours per week: 10-20

Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Biology Laboratory Assistant, Main Campus
DEPARTMENT: Natural Sciences and Physical Education
REPORTS TO: Kristi Nowell
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Abide by Safety Procedures & Policies as detailed in the JJC Chemical Hygiene Plan
2. Prepare laboratory materials for all Biology courses.
3. Prepare media for Microbiology Labs, while practicing aseptic techniques.
4. Maintenance of aquariums, plants, lab animals and other living specimens.
5. Maintenance of cadaver rooms and handling of preserved specimens.
6. Maintenance of laboratory equipment & supplies, including; cleaning, storage & inventories.
7. Maintenance of classrooms and general lab clean-up.
8. Prepare chemical solutions. Observe proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
9. Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Completed previous coursework in Biology and/or Chemistry
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• Some Moderate Lifting Required

They also contain information about crime statistics for the three previous years for all JJC campuses, property owned and controlled by JJC District 525 and on public property immediately adjacent to JJC campuses.

This information is required by law and is made available by the Joliet Junior College Police Department.
