Position Summary

Coordinates the Michigan State University Clery Act Compliance Program and develops, implements, maintains and regularly reviews policies and procedures to facilitate basic institutional compliance with the Clery Act, HEA fire safety requirements, and the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act.

Identifies and maintains the list of institutional “campus security authorities” (CSAs), as that term is defined under the Clery Act.

Provides training on Clery Act requirements to CSAs and institutional stakeholders and maintains accurate records of, and presentations on, security awareness and crime prevention programs.

Compiles data and other information from various campus CSAs and law enforcement agencies for analysis and inclusion in various Clery required public disclosures and prepares, publishes, and distributes the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report.

Submits annual crime statistics to the United States Department of Education and collaborates with MSU Police Department regarding issuance of “timely warnings” and “emergency notifications”; proper classification of crimes, and compliance with other Clery Act Requirements.

Collaborates with the MSU Land Management Office and others to maintain an accurate list MSU’s “Clery Act geography.”

Administers the Clery Compliance Committee meetings, trainings, and discussions associated with changes to and information contained within the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report and attends the monthly Clery Compliance Steering Committee and facilitates related items such as setting the agenda.

Stays informed of pending and final changes to the Clery Act and other laws or regulations affecting Clery Act provisions.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year degree program in a related field, three to five years of related working experience in assessing compliance in an academic, research or other complex compliance environment; previous experience complying with the requirements of the Clery Act; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications
  • Three years or more experience working with a college or university
  • Familiarity with Clery Act and ability to understand how the act interrelates to other education laws such as Title IX and VAWA
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a wide variety of individuals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives
  • Ability to be a self-starter, organized and detail oriented
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
