Digital Media Producer

Position Summary

The Digital Media Producer (Videotape Producer/Director II, Level 12 APA) develops, produces and directs multi-camera studio and/or on-site productions for digital media. Directs technical and creative aspects of video production. Responsible for managing strategic digital content initiatives for the department of Residence Education and Housing Services (REHS) at Michigan State University, particularly around web and social media. The Digital Media Producer will serve as a liaison with Residential and Hospitality Services (RHS) Creative Services, as well as internal and external partners, to promote the Residence Education and Housing Services, Live On, MSU Union and Residential and Hospitality Services brands.

  • Directs, schedules and coordinates facilities, crews, artists and other talent in studio and on location in order to facilitate the production of videos and digital media.
  • Designs, prepares and edits production scripts and staging floor plan materials to be used in video programs.
  • Records interviews and accompanying footage on location in order to provide videos to be included in digital media productions.
  • Evaluates remote locations and directs camera positioning in order to maintain technical and aesthetic standards.
  • Provides direction to people on location shoots in order to elicit the desired performances.
  • Examines and critiques materials in order to assure their applicability and merit.
  • Confers with faculty, staff and public in order to determine needs, explain capabilities and offer suggestions to improve quality and maximize efficiency.
  • Maintains and monitors video and audio signals to assure compliance with industry standards.
  • Assists in the orientation and training of staff and student crew members using video equipment.
  • Analyzes and makes recommendations for the purchase and maintenance of video production equipment.
  • Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

    Knowledge normally acquired by completing a four year college degree program in Television Production, Broadcast Journalism or Telecommunications; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in studio and remote television production, directing, editing, and the use of related television equipment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Desired Qualifications

    Three to five years progressively more responsible or expansive work in digital marketing, advertising, public relations or related field; proven skills and success in video production; experience in digital and web multimedia projects; skilled in using Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Audition), demonstrated success in building effective communications and marketing programs to both internal and external audiences; Google Analytics and other messaging/content management tools; successful development and creation of social media to reach specific goals; experience engaging with audiences via social media; strong independent thinking and leadership skills; ability to work effectively on a diverse team with different communication styles; energy, enthusiasm and creativity.

    Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., occasional nights and weekends
