The Center for Academic Programs (CAP) at the University of Connecticut seeks candidates for the position of Coordinator of the Student Support Services program (SSS) at the Stamford campus. Under the general direction of the CAP Executive Program Director, the Coordinator is responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of program and services for the counseling, recruitment, and retention of students in the SSS program. Travel is required. Some of the responsibilities include providing academic, career, and personal advising and counseling to first-generation, low-income students from diverse backgrounds and students placed on scholastic probation; planning and coordinating academic and professional development activities, workshops, and special events; maintaining detailed student records; project evaluation and data collection; supervising, training, evaluating, and assigning work to student workers; teaching First Year Experience courses; and administration of a pre-collegiate summer program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in counseling or related field; at least five years’ experience in counseling first-generation, low-income, first-generation and/or underrepresented college students; experience in higher education environment; experience in teaching and/or conducting workshops; demonstrated administrative experience including the ability to resolve administrative problems efficiently and independently, as well as coordinate activities and events with various constituencies, both internal and external; excellent interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written communication skills; must be willing and able to travel to the Storrs campus and other campus locations on a regular basis; and willingness to work flexible and irregular hours.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Six years' or more experience in counseling first-generation, low-income, and/or underrepresented college students; proven supervisory skills; bilingual English/Spanish; experience with budgets; experience with grant writing.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full time, permanent appointment. Salary is in the low 60’s and includes full benefits.
