SUMMARY:

The Financial Accountant IV performs advanced and complex financial accounting work in accordance with FASB and GASB standards, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, State and Federal laws/regulations, and University policy. Prepares internal and external reports for University auxiliary units and affiliated organizations. Oversees clearing account reconciliations.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains accurate books and financial records for P3 housing development project utilizing QuickBooks for financial transactions and reporting
  • Prepares required financial reports as outlined in the P3 housing development contract documents.
  • Maintains familiarity with P3 housing development contract documents.
  • Serves as liaison with housing and facilities departments to ensure compliance with P3 management agreement and trust indenture.
  • Coordinates annual P3 financial audit.
  • Reconciles the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) account to ensure accuracy in payments and reporting of TRS employee and employer contributions.
  • Responsible for the reconciliation of all student Banner clearing accounts.
  • Oversees financial reconciliation process and provides accountability reports to AVP/VP.
  • Responsible for accounting and reconciliation of the Texas A&M University-Commerce Foundation and Alumni Association accounts.
  • Responsible for internal and external monthly, quarterly and annual reporting for the Texas A&M University-Commerce Foundation and Alumni Association.
  • Coordinates annual Foundation and Alumni Association financial audits.
  • Monitors all financial reporting deadlines.
  • Prepares monthly financial statements for university auxiliary operations in accordance with System Regulation 21.01.01, to serve as a reference for executive and financial officers.
  • Prepares and posts journal entries and budget changes.
  • Verifies accuracy of accounting data and entries.
  • Balances and reconciles accounts; prepares and analyzes financial reports.
  • Develops and maintains financial records.
  • Compiles and analyzes data.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Accounting OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Five (5) years of related experience. Knowledge of accounting procedures and methods, and ability to apply them to difficult or complex transactions. Accuracy and attention to detail. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficiency with computer applications including spreadsheet, database and word-processing software (experience with MS Office applications).
  • Ability to: Ability to analyze various situations and to recommend and implement solutions. Ability to compile, organize, interpret and communicate accounting data and results in a concise format. Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

Masters and/or CPA preferred. QuickBooks experience preferred. FASB experience preferred.
