Our community is a tight knit group of remarkable individuals interested in intellectual inquiry and making a difference in the world.

Requirements

The Department of Performing Arts at Georgetown University is currently searching for a full-time, non-tenure line position in Recording Arts and Technology to begin August 1, 2020. The successful candidate will be appointed as an Assistant Teaching Professor. This position represents a critical area of teaching and support within the Music Program generally and in the BA degree program in American Musical Culture, in particular the degree track in Music and Media Studies.

The teaching load is two current core courses in recording arts and technology per semester, with teaching responsibilities at the undergraduate level. Additional responsibilities include management of our university recording studio, advisement for the purchase and maintenance of departmental equipment, direction for student projects (most often in the form of capstones) and as technical support for professional performances sponsored by the Music Program (including the Friday Music concert series and related events). Additional expertise in related areas (film and media studies, journalism) is preferred. The department is especially interested in candidates whose professional work links to the music program's strengths in American Musical Culture. We strongly encourage applicants from underrepresented backgrounds to build upon our diverse intellectual community and to engage the Washington D.C. region.

The Music Program seeks a candidate with a strong commitment to collaborating with colleagues and to innovative teaching and mentorship as well as an established professional record within the field of recording arts. An undergraduate degree is required (Master's preferred) with a proven record of professional success. A record of teaching experience in Recording Techniques and Technology is required, including significant work with professional software, sound design and engineering, mixing, podcasting, and related knowledge of recording equipment and practical skills to prepare students for a professional career in the music and entertainment industries.
