Open Date:

Description:

The Kraemer laboratory seeks a motivated individual who works well with others to join a multi-disciplinary collaborative research team as a Postdoctoral Scholar focused on the molecular genetics of aging associated neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease, frontotemporal lobar degeneration, and related dementia disorders.

We are investigating the molecular mechanisms of aging induced protein aggregation and neurodegeneration using forward genetic approaches. Specifically, we have identified many genetic suppressors of the neurodegenerative phenotypes caused by transgenic human tau and TDP-43 protein expression in C. elegans neurons. We have identified several intriguing candidate genes involved in RNA processing that are ripe for a new postdoctoral researcher to translationally characterize further using behavioral, genetic, and biochemical analyses. By completing these studies, we aim to nominate novel therapeutic target genes for translation studies in rodent models of neurodegenerative disease.

Desirable experience/knowledge/skills include:

  • Experience in molecular cloning
  • Experience in transgenesis methods or genome editing using CRIPSR/Cas9 methods.
  • Experience with genetic analysis methods in model organisms.
  • Experience in assessing protein aggregation.
  • Experience in advanced microscopy techniques.
  • Knowledge of the pathobiology of neurodegenerative disease
  • Knowledge of the biology of aging and disease
  • Knowledge of neurobiology
  • Skill with nematodes as a model organism
  • Skill with Mice as a model organism
  • Skill with cell culture models of disease.

Anticipated start date is February 2020

Postdoctoral scholars are represented by UAW 4121 and are subject to the collective bargaining agreement, unless agreed exclusion criteria apply. For more information, please visit the University of Washington Labor Relations website.
