The dean reports directly to the provost and is the chief academic and administrative officer for the Coles College of Business. The dean represents Coles to the broader Kennesaw State community and to the outside world, including alumni, donors, and other external stakeholders. The dean takes the lead in strategic planning and in solidifying and implementing the vision, mission, and goals for the college.

The dean will oversee an extensive leadership team of over 16 individuals, including programmatic and operational deans and directors, as well as the academic department chairs and directors. The dean also collaborates with an advisory board which provides the Coles College administration with support and advice on policies, programs, and overall direction of the college.

Responsibilities of the next dean include:
•Developing and articulating a compelling vision for the College consistent with the university’s mission and vision;
•Advocating for and supporting the faculty, staff, and students in the Coles College of Business;
•Guiding and coordinating the College’s instruction, research, service, and development activities;
•Preparing and managing the College budget and strategically allocating resources among departments, programs, and initiatives;
•Collaborating with unit leaders and faculty to guide the hiring, development, evaluation, and retention of high quality full- and part-time faculty within the college;
•Facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration within the college and with other colleges and units of Kennesaw State;
•Supporting and advancing scholarship, research and/or creative activity, and the pursuit of grants and other research funding sources;
•Understanding of the AACSB accreditation requirements and process and the ability to lead the College through reaccreditation at a high level;
•Working with faculty and administrative leaders to identify and obtain revenue sources to support existing and new activities within Coles;
•Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with external partners and constituencies; and
•Serving as a member of a team of deans and other administrative leaders who report directly to the provost.

Required Education - Experience - Skills (Minimum Qualifications):

The successful candidate should possess an earned doctorate or foreign equivalent in a discipline relevant to the College as well as academic qualifications appropriate for appointment at the rank of professor in one of the academic departments of the College. The next dean should also demonstrate a record of effective managerial leadership skills, clear communication, and a commitment to diversity, inclusivity, shared governance and community engagement.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a proven track record of leadership through rapid growth and expansion, an ability to enhance an institution’s reputation and philanthropic success in the business and broader communities, and a commitment to a collaborative, collegial, flexible, and transparent leadership style. In addition to these qualities, the ideal candidate will demonstrate the following attributes:

•Experience with creating new and “niche” initiatives to respond to market needs and to enable a college to stand out in a crowded marketplace; and
•A willing and proven fundraiser with a knowledge base and personal commitment to be appropriately engaged in creating a positive culture of philanthropy for the College.

The dean will bring to the role a record of teaching and scholarly achievement reflective of Kennesaw State’s own standards of excellence and coupled with integrity and vision.
