The Department of Fine Arts and Art History at the American University of Beirut invites applications for the

The Studio Arts BA Program is a sequential curricular structure organized to provide undergraduate art
students with a strong foundation in studio skills and theory. The current faculty members, while trained
and skilled in studio techniques including drawing, painting, sculpture and photography, do not espouse a
conventional approach to the deployment of these techniques nor do they promote in their teaching a
fidelity to any particular tradition in art. Rather, they all teach through the lenses of their own current
practices in which the past, present and future of art are constantly being recomposed in dynamic
constellations. The Program encourages a recalling of art from within current concerns and develops in
students an ability to employ a large array of knowledge and skills with a readiness to open up towards
studio‐based and post‐studio art practices.
We seek to recruit an artist who enthusiastically supports the Program’s strong commitment to the academic
and creative endeavors of all of our students. The aim is to offer students a rich variety of expertise,
perspectives and ways of knowing and learning. The Program is committed to creating a community in which
a diverse population can learn, live and work in an atmosphere of civility and respect for the rights, desires
and sensibilities of each individual.

preferred. An MFA or equivalent is a requirement.
