The Department of Fine Arts and Art History at the American University of Beirut invites
applications for the Philippe Jabre Visiting Professorship in Art History and Curating. The purpose
of this professorship is to bring to the university an established scholar with a distinguished
record of academic or curatorial activity. The area of specialization is Contemporary Art History
and Theory, and Theories, Methods and Practices of Curating. The position is available as either
a one semester or a full academic year appointment, starting in the Spring semester, 2020.
Applications for appointment starting in Fall 2020 will also be considered.
Applicants must demonstrate evidence of scholarly research and curatorial practice. Courses
taught by Jabre Visiting Professor will form part of the MA in Art History and Curating.
Opportunities to collaborate with and curate exhibitions at AUB Art Galleries are available, and a
teaching course might take the form of co‐producing an exhibition with the students in the
course. The Jabre Visiting Professor will also deliver one public lecture.
The applicant must hold a PhD in Art History, Curatorial Studies or a relevant field, and be of a
rank above the assistant professor level. The course load is one course per semester, in addition
to coordinating a non‐credit art history reading seminar. The language of instruction is English.

Review of applications will begin on October 28, 2019, and continue on a rolling basis until the
position is filled. Preference will be given to applications received before December 15, 2019.
