DESCRIPTION

A technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field of public health with recognized expertise in specific areas. Problem-solving that frequently requires the analysis of unique issues/problems without precedent and/or structure. The incumbent may manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources. Applies extensive knowledge as a survey research professional to develop, evaluate, and analyze broad-based, multi-year survey initiatives related to technological innovation, medical education, and public health.

Serves as a team lead on research study designs, including project development and planning, implementation and management of qualitative and quantitative methodologies, survey tools and systems, procedures, techniques and processes focusing on technological innovation, medical education, and public health. Develops and maintains databases of relevant survey instruments. Reviews and recommends resources needed to meet research studies goals. Monitors and ensures research studies are within allocated budgets.

Utilizes continuous improvement methodologies to evaluate and ensure that future plans and processes are informed by research findings, including those from surveys, interviews, and focus groups. Responsible for the coordination and management of data collections and analysis for the research studies. Participates in screening applicants, interviews candidates, and recommends individuals for hire. Provides training and work direction to lower level staff and students, as needed. Participates as a major contributor to scientific writing, grant writing, as well as presenting findings at scientific conferences.

~ Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends.
~ Must be available to travel nationally or internationally a few times per year.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Thorough knowledge of field of research related to bioethics, health technology, medical education, social science, and public health.

  • Qualitative research experience, including conducting focus groups and interviews in the field of research related to bioethics, health technology, medical education, social science, and public health.

  • Advanced knowledge and skills relating to the development of survey instrumentation. Specifically, strong knowledge and skills in bioethics, health technology, medical education, social science, and public health.

  • Thorough knowledge of and experience with IRB regulations, Human Subjects Rights and informed consent procedures, including issues related to competency to consent.

  • Demonstrated experience using statistical software applications (e.g., SPSS).

  • In-depth knowledge of data collection activities, research studies, data collection procedures and protocols.

  • Demonstrated knowledge in research data collection and other studies related to research within bioethics, health technology, medical education, social science, and public health.

  • Strong experience in project development and coordination, planning, grant writing and development. Ability to contribute original ideas pertaining to the planning, development, modification, and execution of new research studies and ancillary studies that build on existing work.

  • Strong leadership and management skills. Strong decision-making skills and ability to use independent judgment to quickly set priorities and to solve problems. Demonstrated ability to respond effectively to unexpected events and crises.

  • Advanced ability to monitor and assess staffing levels, recruitment, training and facilitation skills. Ability to provide training and work directions to lower level staff, including interviewing candidates and recommending individuals for hire.

  • In-depth knowledge of multi-year budget planning process. Ability to monitor and ensure projects are within allocated budget and timelines. Advanced ability to conduct strategic project planning.

  • Excellent writing and editorial skills. Strong organizational, problem solving, analytical, and long-range planning skills with meticulous attention to detail.

  • Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to foster a good working relationship with a wide variety of people, using tact, diplomacy, confidentiality and flexibility.

  • Ability to effectively prioritize workload and meet required deadlines despite frequent interruptions and competing demands.
