The Coastal and Marine Geospatial Lab (CMGL) in the Harte Research Institute of Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi is a multidisciplinary group studying past changes, mapping current conditions, and modeling future changes in coastal environments. GIS and Remote Sensing Specialists, Geoscientists, Biologists, Data Scientists, and Modelers collaborate to gain a better understanding of how past and ongoing processes such as sea level rise and hurricanes have and will change coastal environments. We place the results of our work in the context of improving natural and human resiliency. This Research Specialist position is for a Coastal Geoscientist to join our team.
Responsibilities:
Research Specialist I
- Coordinate and conduct field research.
- Develop and maintain geospatial databases of legacy and new geospatial data and prepare metadata.
- Process and visualize geospatial datasets.
- Assist preparing research reports and web products as deliverables.
- Assist in the preparation of proposals and scientific manuscripts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Coordinate and conduct field research.

- Prepare research reports and web products as deliverables.
- Assist in the preparation of proposals and scientific manuscripts.
- Attend meetings to make presentations and represent the institute as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Coordinate and conduct field research.

- Process, visualize, analyze, and interpret geospatial datasets.
- Prepare research reports and web products as deliverables.
- Provide research expertise. Audits protocols.
- Prepare of proposals and scientific manuscripts.
- Attend meetings to make presentations and represent the institute as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Research Specialist I
- Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Physical Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, Marine Science or related field.
- Four (4) years of related experience to include experience in the management, quantitative analysis, and QA/QC of geospatial data.
- Additional education may be used as a substitute for the minimum experience requirement:
- Masters degree and two (2) years of experience.
- Doctoral degree.
- Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Physical Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, Marine Science or related field.
- Six (6) years of related experience to include experience in the management, quantitative analysis, and QA/QC of geospatial data.
- Additional education may be used as a substitute for the minimum experience requirement:
- Masters degree and four (4) years of experience.
- Doctoral degree and two (2) years of experience.
- Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Physical Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, Marine Science or related field.
- Eight (8) years of related experience to include experience in the management, quantitative analysis, and QA/QC of geospatial data.
- Additional education may be used as a substitute for the minimum experience requirement:
- Masters degree and six (6) years of experience.
- Doctoral degree and four (4) years of experience.
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook).
- Ability to work well on an interdisciplinary research team.
- Ability to conduct field research in remote and varying environmental settings.
- Ability to travel for presentations and represent the institution.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Geology, Physical Geography, Remote Sensing, Environmental Science, Engineering, Marine Science or related field.
- Research experience on coastal or marine problems.
- Knowledge of coastal biophysical processes
- Experience with geospatial data processing and management
- Experience with remote sensing imagery and lidar
- Competent in scientific programming and model building of geospatial data
- Advanced knowledge of ArcGIS software
