Your opportunity:

The Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology is among the oldest in North America. We offer training in pharmacology and toxicology to both undergraduate and graduate students who may subsequently go on to do exciting research, regulatory and administrative careers in academic, industrial, and healthcare provision settings. We also provide training to professional programs such as Medicine and Pharmacy.

As the Lab technician, your role will involve the use of in vivo gene engineering approaches in rodents and the development of biosensors used in cellular screening assays. You will work both independently and collaboratively to support with in vivo pharmacological target validation and in vitro screening assay development. Your sound knowledge of research lab equipment and demonstrated technical lab experience will contribute to your overall success in this role.



Your responsibilities will include:
  • Constructing proof of concept experiments to test different elements of the process
  • Preparing draft statistical reports and summaries from data collected
  • Scheduling the use of lab equipment and resources, and troubleshooting routine equipment repairs
  • Preparing, assembling and setting-up material, equipment and supplies used in teaching and/or research labs
  • Providing detailed explanations and demonstrating procedures to students and/or employees on lab techniques, experimental procedures and protocols
  • Serving as a technical resource on laboratory protocols, and experimental procedures and equipment
  • Maintaining and ordering supplies


CampusEssential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum two years experience in the development of high throughput screening assays, viral vector design and development and advanced molecular biology approaches
  • Demonstrated expertise in viral vector design and development and the design and development of Crispr/Cas approaches to perform somatic gene knockouts in living animals
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of luminescent and fluorescent protein based screening assay including single and dual luciferase and split-luciferase systemsmitochondrial function assays (isolation, membrane permeability, ATP-assay), inducible stable cell line system development, quantitative rtPCR and advanced molecular biology approaches (e.g. GeneBlock and Gibson assembly)
  • Experience preparing draft statistical reports and summaries
  • Must have working knowledge of research laboratory equipment
  • Must be familiar with safety and hazard protocols in a lab environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications (e.g. PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Strong organizational, analytical and record-keeping skills
  • Exceptional problem solving and communication (oral and written) skills
  • Ability to work independently
