The Research Accounting Specialist will beresponsible for managing the Effort Reporting System and educating thesponsored research community on post award management as it relates to time andeffort on grants and/or contracts.

The Research Accounting Specialist is familiarwith the accounting payroll system and manages allocation of time and effortfor payroll distribution on all grants and contracts.  The ResearchAccounting Specialist will proactively meet with the AVP, director andstaff for updates and analysis of grant/contract efforts on awards. Theposition will assist faculty, Principal Investigators (PI’s), business managersand administrators with financial and general administration of sponsoredawards, with a focus on customer service. Will also advise, educate, andcounsel faculty, Principal Investigators (PI’s), business managers andadministrators on research compliance; budgetary issues (salary equipment, costsharing, tuition); and the Effort Reporting System (ERS). This position isknowledgeable of University policies, procedures, practices and standards.

The Research Accounting Specialist will provideoversight and have authority to approve and process transactionsrelated to sponsored projects. Other projects include assistance with theannual Uniform Guidance audit report, sub-recipient monitoring, and ERS systemupgrades. Perform other duties assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree and at least three years ofexperience in sponsored research or related field. An equivalent combination ofeducation and or experience may be considered.

Required Skills & Abilities:

*Demonstrated organizational skills and anability to set priorities and manage several projects at once with a minimum ofsupervision.

*Strong verbal, written, and interpersonalcommunication skills.

*Demonstrated ability to work in a teamenvironment, including diverse groups if faculty and staff.

*Must have practiced understanding of researchcompliance issues.

*Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Windowssoftware (Office, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint).

*Demonstrated proficiency with Banner Finance andHR, Cognos Reporting, Era proposal management system and Maximus EffortReporting Systems (ERS).

Preferred:

*Prior experience with Federal funding sources(NIH, DOD, and NSF and OMB Uniform Guidance).

*Experience using ERP systems and reporting toolssuch as Banner Finance and Cognos.
