The Department of English and Foreign Languages seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor of English and Director of the College Composition program, to begin August 2020. The successful candidate will lead the university’s college composition program, with primary responsibility for curriculum development and assessment, and contribute to the department’s upper-division program in Professional Writing and Rhetoric. Teaching responsibilities include 2 courses per semester (2/2) in composition and advanced writing.

Minimum Requirements  

The successful candidate must have

  • A PhD in English, with a specialization in composition studies, rhetoric, professional writing, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated success teaching with diverse student populations.
  • Evidence of an emerging research agenda in composition, professional writing, and/or rhetoric.

Preferred Qualifications  

Preferred qualifications include

  • Experience teaching online at the university level. Experience with program administration.
  • Experience teaching advanced professional writing.
  • Experience teaching online.

Department Information      

The Department of English and Foreign Languages offers the BA in English with concentrations in Professional Writing and Rhetoric, Creative Writing, Literature, and Secondary Education. We also offer a BA in Foreign Languages in French and Spanish, and undergraduate certificates in Linguistics and in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. We are located on the beautiful and historic Summerville campus.
