The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a full-time, benefitted Licensed Practical Nurse at Student Health Services at the Gainesville campus. Work involves the performance of routine nursing duties that include but are not limited to physical assessment/triage, assisting with procedures and delivering of over-the-counter medications or basic first aid. Perform duties in accordance with established rules and regulations, standard practices, procedure manuals, and special instructions from the PA/NP/MD. Job performance is done with considerable latitude for the exercise of independent judgment and limitations of nursing. Work will be observed and reviewed by Nurse Supervisor, PA/NP/MD.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

The Licensed Nurse Practical Nurse will:

  • Be proficient in physical assessment skills and triage, performing phlebotomy and CLIA-waived laboratory tests and processing lab specimens.
  • Perform tasks as required by the mid-level provider or physician, assist with procedures.
  • Be proficient in documenting legibly and correctly in medical records including electronic medical records system.
  • Be proficient in delivering over-the-counter medications appropriate for complaint and/or assessment.
  • Assist with answering questions regarding immunization requirements per the Board of Regents, processing immunizations in Banner.
  • Attend meetings as required. Assist with Open House and Orientation coverage.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Must have knowledge of medical terminology, Familiarity with HIPPA and FERPA regulations and patient confidentiality.
  • Ability to perform in-house laboratory tests, phlebotomy, obtain and process specimens, and injection of medications/immunizations.
  • Ability to recognize an emergency situation and initiate emergency care. Knowledge of immunization requirements per the Board of Regents.
  • Flexibility to work weekends when necessary.
  • Proficient interpersonal skills.
  • Professional and confident demeanor.
  • Physical assessment skills, treatment of acute illness/injury as directed by provider
  • Computer skills.
  • Must be organized, communicates well, interpersonal skills with students, faculty/staff and parents.
Certifications/Licenses & Minimum Requirements:
  • High school diploma required and a graduate from an approved practical nursing program.
  • Minimum of five years experience as an office nurse or urgent/emergency care.
  • CPR and AED certified.
  • Registered as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the state of Georgia.
