The Department of Natural Sciences which is housed within the School of Arts & Sciences is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Professor of Geology. This is a 10-month, tenure track position. The expected starting date is August 1, 2020.

Essential Duties

The primary role of this position will be teaching introductory and upper level courses in Geology and other related courses in Environmental Science such as Geographic Information Systems, Coastal Geomorphology, Geochemistry, and Hydrology. The successful candidate will have proven knowledge and experience in Geology. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in undergraduate advising, support departmental and college-wide and initiatives, including the development of new courses and improvement of existing curricula. Applicants must have a strong commitment to undergraduate education and be able to foster a collaborative atmosphere among students and faculty. The successful candidate will be a strongly motivated and enthusiastic individual with a firm commitment to excellence in teaching. In addition, the successful candidate will be encouraged to develop a research program involving undergraduate students. The candidate will be expected to work cooperatively with others and be willing to teach both day and evening courses at the Brunswick campus or Camden Center location as needed.

Minimum Qualifications and Training

Must have earned a Doctorate degree with 18 semester hours at the graduate level in Geological Sciences or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications and Training

Applicants who are interested in mentoring undergraduate research in coastal hydrogeology and/or environmental science and/or geology. Preference will be given to candidates who are also qualified to develop courses in remote sensing and spatial statistics.
