Position Summary

Instructional leadership responsibilities include teaching AT 291 - Irrigation Lab (1 credit) for the Institute of Agricultural Technology during the spring 2020 semester. Instruction of the course will be delivered in-person at Southwestern Michigan College, Dowagiac Michigan. Course contact hours will be 1hr. 50min./week for 15 weeks of instruction.

Course topics will include:

  • Principles of hydraulics and how they impact irrigation system efficiency
  • Design process of automatic irrigation systems used in landscape, turf, and plant production industries
  • Methods for programming various types of irrigation controllers
  • Assembly techniques and troubleshooting of electrical irrigation components
  • Auditing of irrigation systems
  • Specifications and assembly techniques of common irrigation components used in the industry
  • Position is planned to recur every Spring Semester

    Masters -Horticulture or other plant science-related field

    Minimum Requirements

    Required:

  • B.S. (Assistant Instructor) or M.S. (Instructor) in horticulture or other plant science-related fields
  • Experience in Irrigation
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge and skills to develop and teach classroom courses
  • Desired Qualifications

  • B.S. (Assistant Instructor) or M.S. (Instructor) in horticulture or other plant science-related fields
  • Experience in development and assessment of learning outcomes
  • Undergraduate teaching experience and a passion for teaching
