We seek a tenure-track faculty member to contribute to programs in Rhetoric and Professional Communication (undergraduate emphasis, MA, and Ph.D.) in the English Department at New Mexico State University. Ideal applicants will have research interests and teaching experience in critical composition or writing studies as well as the potential to rotate in as a Writing Program Administrator in the future. They will be prepared and willing to direct and participate on MA and Ph.D. committees, contribute to the undergraduate English major, and support general education writing across campus.

NMSU is a land-grant, Hispanic-Serving Institution in Southern New Mexico that serves multilingual, multicultural students from the U.S.-Mexico Borderlands region and beyond. Our MA and Ph.D. programs support a diverse, international student body. In support of our mission and dedication to our students, we seek a colleague able to articulate histories and traditions of disciplinary knowledge in inclusive and expansive ways. Strong candidates will contextualize their research, teaching, and administrative expertise in terms of multiple critical traditions upon which they draw.

Our programs engage the fields of composition, rhetoric, writing studies, technical and professional communication, literacy studies, and media studies. They are located in an English department that also includes specialists in literary studies and creative writing. We welcome interdisciplinary scholarship, synergy across subfields, creative teaching, and community engagement.

Secondary specialties that we would be particularly excited to welcome include, but are not limited to, multilingual and translingual literacies; postcolonial, decolonial, and transnational theories and methodologies; cultural rhetorics; border and migration studies; critical race studies; disability studies; anti-oppressive approaches to the composition classroom and Writing Program Administration; and critical media studies.

This is a full-time, 9-month position. The base teaching load is 3-3 with releases for graduate advising and administrative work available.

We encourage applications from scholars of color, LGBTQ scholars, scholars with disabilities, women, gender nonconforming scholars, and scholars of other underrepresented groups. NMSU is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer.
