Graduate Aid Program Manager - Office of Student Financial Services

Requirements
The Graduate Aid Program Manager is a new position within the Office of Student Financial Services (OSFS) created to support the growing graduate student population and an increase in the number of Graduate Academic programs. S/he supports students, academic departments, and university staff by providing comprehensive graduate aid support all the way from counseling prospective students to system work in Banner for need-based financial aid and merit awards alike. The incumbent plays a key role in all daily aspects of administering graduate financial aid, being the first point of contact for both prospective and current graduate students who are seeking financial aid advising and financial support and providing both client services and financial aid counseling. Under the general direction of the Associate Dean, the Graduate Aid Program Manager has additional duties that include but are not limited to:
- Sets up academic enrollment periods in the Banner student system and assists in updating and maintaining the financial aid yearly setup for Main Campus graduate programs that entails setting up aid periods for current and new programs.
- Builds budget component rules and assists in establishing graduate cost of attendance budgets, maintaining and updating these budgets for each academic program.
- Applies appropriate budget rules In the Banner student system to account for the many different aid disbursement scenarios associated with each graduate program.
- Working closely with other OSFS staff, creates graduate ad-hoc operational reports using our current reporting applications, Cognos, and population selection (Popsel) queries in Banner.
- Processes daily system jobs that support this operation to effectively deliver financial aid in the form of both scholarships and loans on a timely basis.
- Automates and schedules batch production processing for systems jobs that can be automated, maintaining and posting graduate school financial aid information on the OSFS website.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and training, reviewing operational professional publications, and establishing personal/professional networks.
- Works closely with the graduate academic departments to secure their merit awards on a timely basis so the need-based part of their aid application can be processed.
- Serves as the point of main contact for graduate student financial aid inquiries, answering general questions posed by prospective graduate aid applicants and current graduate students' aid.
- Helps manage the "suspense" file in Banner when graduate students' applications do not get into Banner appropriately, resolving the problem and loading suspense records into Banner.
- Reviews graduate aid applications and processes awards for merit aid, federal loans, and private loans.
- Discusses financial aid awards with prospective and current students, providing debt management counseling and explaining how aid is disbursed to cover direct and indirect costs incurred by the graduate student.
- Performs the Federal verification recess as needed.
- Bachelor's Degree
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and data analysis tools
- Experience in customer service - communications skills and strong customer service orientation essential
- Creative thinking, self-motivation, accuracy, organizational skills, and attention to detail are all critical to this position
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of Banner Student Information System, reporting utilities such as COGNOS for report writing, PC operating systems
- Knowledge of financial aid operations and higher education industry software
