Elgin Community College (ECC) is a comprehensive, fully accredited community college located in Elgin, Illinois, one of its most rapidly growing cities. Our district encompasses 360 square miles, serving 400,000 people, 11,000 businesses with four public school districts and 15 high schools. ECC was selected as one of five Illinois community colleges to participate in the national Achieving the Dream (AtD) initiative, is a long-term national initiative that collaborates with community colleges to help more students earn degrees, complete certificates, or transfer to four-year institutions to continue their studies. The park-like setting of our 145 acre Main Campus offers instruction spanning nine major buildings with beautiful views. ECC also offers classes throughout the northwest suburbs of Chicago with more than 100 off-campus locations.


Under the general direction of the Assistant Dean for College Readiness, the Student Readiness Coordinator provides support for the Transition Academy program, which helps high school aged-students develop strategies for academic and personal success in college and careers. Program duties include recruitment and training of program mentors and coordination of the program's implementation. The Coordinator is also responsible for outreach to middle schools, after school programs, and community agencies to support programming focused on preparing students for college and/or careers. Lastly, the Coordinator will assist the Assistant Dean with planning and implementing regional college and career readiness events and activities for the Community College District 509.

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Manage the daily tasks associated with the implementation of the Transition Academy program, including on-site direction and support for Saturday and summer sessions.
2. Recruit, train, and support Transition Academy mentors. Develop and foster partnerships with area organizations and business leaders for mentor recruitment purposes.
3. Engage and support local community/afterschool agencies with foci on students' college and career readiness. Provide access to resources, coordinate programming for students on site, coordinate professional development for staff, etc.
4. Prepare and manage communications to aide targeted D509 students/families with information about college and career readiness opportunities as well as Transition Program options/resources available to support their child
5. Assist Assistant Dean with planning and implementing regional D509 college and career readiness events/activities. This includes creating and conducting presentations as well as planning events such as career exploration events, college readiness workshops, development of resources, etc.

Other Duties:

1. Perform other job-related duties as assigned which pertain to the job description.
2. Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes days/evenings/weekends as needed by the department.

Required Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
2. At least three years of professional experience, preferably in secondary or post-secondary educational settings.
3. Ability to communicate effectively, written and orally.
4. Demonstrated ability to effectively interact, work, and develop meaningful relationships with people of various cultural backgrounds.
5. Ability to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously with attention to detail and accuracy
6. Proven success in analyzing problems and developing creative and innovative solutions.
7. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google applications.

Desired Qualifications:

1. Bilingual in Spanish strongly preferred.
2. Previous work experience in student personnel and/or TRiO grant programs preferred.
3. Experience working with training and/or recruiting mentors preferred.
