    General: The Department of Geography and City & Regional Planning is accepting applications for a tenure-track position in Physical Geography with the emphasis on global climate change. The successful applicant will teach geography courses as well as high enrollment general education courses. The applicant will teach geography courses including violent weather, physical geography, global environmental change, climatology, and meteorology. Preference will be given to applicants who have the ability to teach courses in GIS. The successful applicant may be called upon to teach in a distance or service learning education mode and will be encouraged to develop hybrid and/or online instructions. The successful applicant will perform outcome assessment for courses. Additional responsibilities of the applicant include research, publication, and other scholarly activities, as well as advising students and engaging in service at all levels of the university. Specific assignments are dependent on departmental needs and the background of the individual.

    Qualifications:

    Required Education (from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent.):

    A Ph.D. in Geography or a related field such as environmental studies, atmospheric sciences, or climatology is required.

    Applicants nearing the completion of Ph.D. will be considered; however, for employment the Ph.D. must be completed by 7/31/2020.

    Required Experience - Applicant must be able to demonstrate:

    1) A commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, which may be exhibited through prior teaching experiences and teaching evaluations or other evidence.

    2) An excellence in research and/or peer-reviewed publications.

    3) A commitment to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

    Preferred Experience:

    1) Evidence of having successfully taught one or more university-level physical geography and GIS courses as a sole instructor.

    2) Evidence of success in scholarly research, such as publications in peer-reviewed journals and/or publications of professional and technical reports.

    About the Department:

    The Department of Geography and City & Regional Planning is a student-centered department and one of nine departments and programs in the College of Social Sciences. The department offers a BA degree in Geography, a BS degree in City and Regional Planning, a minor in Meteorology, a minor in Interdisciplinary Urban Studies, and an online Certificate of Advanced Study in Community and Regional Planning. The course offerings support undergraduate training for careers in environmental study, teaching, weather, regional and urban planning, and preparation for graduate work. The department boasts as the most internationally diverse faculty in the university and takes pride in its scholarly excellence. Faculty research is supported by state of the art facilities in two of its laboratories: Environmental Research and GIS/Remote Sensing laboratories. There is opportunity for students to work with faculty on their research projects and take part in department led study abroad projects.
